Raf Simons x Adidas Originals Stan Smiths
Hey, we're back at it again with another sneaker review. This time we're bringing the heat with an overpriced version of a normally $80 shoe.
Classic Stan Smiths. Retail: $80. |
I have a regular old pair of Stan Smiths. But so does everyone and their mother nowadays. These retro tennis sneakers have been a fashion staple since the 80's. Good ol' Stan Smith created an absolutely iconic silhouette that has been replicated by many other designers over the years.
Raf Simons, who I talked about briefly in this post, has collaborated with Adidas multiple time to release many different sneakers. One of these was a retake on the Stan Smith, which retails for about $455. Some of his takes include adding straps, removing laces, and introducing new color schemes. I picked up the "Off-White Aged Leather" version, for sale of course with a 10% off email sign up discount. #StayFrugal
Details on that aged leather MMMM |
These are definitely worth the price tag I paid. The leather is at least 3 steps up from the leather used on regular Stans. With and R (for Raf Simons so you can FLEX) and his name embossed above the Adidas stamp on the sole. I bought these as an all white shoe (which everyone should have at least one pair of in their rotation) and I don't regret it at all. The leather has an aged, cracked look to it, with some staining throughout which gives it a distressed look. These are also just more comfortable than regular Stans.
At the end of the day, these are just expensive Stan Smiths. But I love Raf and I wanna wear his name on my feet. That's not weird is it?
